about

Miroslav Miša Savić
"Oh Light, Oh Tenderness, Oh Darkness, fandango for Dušan for piano and virtual tape was created at the instigation of pianist Nada Kolundžija. In the beginning, it was a piece in which the pianist did not play, but followed her own recitation and presented the transposition of a literary text into a musical text (a piano that speaks). Dušan Vukajlović's poem "Oh Light, Oh Tenderness, Oh Darkness", which is the motto of the entire concert, was recorded on tape (Nada Kolundžija’s voice) and drawn through a computer program that monitors the amplitude and frequency of the voice and generates MIDI notes with piano sound. Unlike eccentric approaches like those of Peter Ablinger and “black MIDI” authors where it is the entire content of their music, I tried to put the speaking piano in the service of form dramaturgy so that the poem (poesis) could be heard in the sound and music media simultaneously, in order to imprint itself in the sound of the voice and the piano like a seal. The series of tones includes all 88 piano keys. However, during the preparation of the performance, both Nada and I were dissatisfied with certain solutions and during that process, while trying not to deviate from the original idea, we changed the material, both the one for playing and the one on the tape. Nada combined parts of my score with selected excerpts from Antonio Soler's Fandango, and finally, though not definitely (who knows?) we came to a satisfactorily recorded improvisation in time fixed with the tape."
